Looking back at cars you could label as “iconic”, you are limited. The Lotus Seven, however, is one such car. Passing the design and manufacturing to Caterham Cars ensured that the legacy continued, and even today, these phenomenal little sports cars are the true Davids to many a Goliath. Light, lithe and nimble, they still follow Colin Chapman’s mantra of “make it simple and add lightness”.
The car we are proud to represent here is possibly unique. Just 9 Autosport 50 examples were ever built to commemorate 50 years of the publication, with this car, chassis number SDKRDSAR6Y0030853, being number 8. What makes it so unique, however, is the fact that it has covered just 400 miles from new, and is as fresh as the day it left the factory. Finished in the Ferrari shade of Rosso Corsa, all Autosport cars carried the gold nose band, and usually their corresponding side stripes and number decals. However, these were requested by the car’s first owner to be left off, and the car looks all the better for it. Based on the Roadsport model, the cars featured a carbon dashboard with number plaque, Stack instrumentation, weather equipment, audio equipment with rear antenna, 5 spoke alloy wheels and side exit exhaust system. This car also features a quick-release MOMO steering wheel making entry & exit much more dignified.
Complete with tonneau cover, side screens, and all correspondence from the factory with the first owner in its history file, this is as close to a new Autosport 50 as you will get today, and its condition certainly defies its age.
