Very few times have I come across a car like this one.  It is an absolute joy to bring to market this exemplary, original and unrestored 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL ‘Pagoda’.  This car is fitted with the ZF 5 speed manual transmission, and has covered 89,000 miles from new in the hands of the original owner.  Resplendent in the original 190G Grey, chassis number 017717 was ordered new from Germany with the following options carefully detailed on the still present sales invoice; 3-piece luggage set, luggage rack and bridge, roof ornaments and ski holders, power steering, ZF 5 speed transmission, Becker Grand Prix radio, leather upholstery, rear jump seat and 3 metal under carriage protection plates.  The history file that accompanies the car really has to be seen to be believed and not only includes the original service book for the car but also the metal data plate, and also the original 3 pink and 1 yellow data card that would have come with the car from the factory.  Also present is the original communication between the owner and Mercedes-Benz regarding some special requests for the car and his trip to the factory for personal collection.  As if this wasn’t enough, the file also contains all shipping documentation from when the car was transported back to the owners residence in Milwaukee, and the original tool roll and spare keys.  The owner’s wooden skis are also included in the sale as is the leather-bound journal he kept detailing every mile covered in the car to the point of noting tyre pressures, fuel economy and service items.

This is undoubtedly the most original Pagoda available today, and therefore commands a substantial asking price.  What cannot be argued, however, is the near perfect condition of this 1 owner, matching numbers car equating to being exactly as it left the Stuttgart factory.  The car will be serviced by one of the most respected Mercedes-Benz specialists in the world prior to delivery to its new custodian.  I cannot portray the true value of such an important SL as this one, and as such viewing is strictly by appointment to serious buyers only.

A once in a lifetime type of car, this is one for the collector or true marque enthusiast who is willing to be the next chapter in this remarkable car’s history.
